D.B.S.G. STYLOS
For those who are not familiar with Stylos, a short introduction.
Stylos is an independent entirely student run non-profit organization.
Since it was founded in 1894 the goals of Stylos are looking after the
interests of –now 3500- architecture students, which means initiating
and organizing workshops, lectures, excursions, etc. criticizing
education, the faculty and the management of our school of
architecture. Stylos has for the past 20 years played the role of
initiator of the debate on architecture in the field of architecture at
large and in the school it self. These debates often in the form of
congress’, lectures and symposia are also a way to criticize our
current architecture education. In 1996 Stylos received the
Maaskant price for structurally playing this role within Dutch
architecture. This current Stylos conference can be placed in the
line of succession of its predecessors which contributed to
establishing our reputation as initiators of debate; Events such as
‘The Critical Landscape’, ‘Context and Modernity’ and ‘The Invisible in
